This blog is my magpie nest: amidst the mud and straw of my own thoughts, I collect shiny things, or the sparkling, dazzling words and works of others. I seek wisdom, truth, and beauty.

The yellow-billed magpie, a native of California, not infrequently nests alongside and with mistletoe, the European species of which was thought by the Gauls to have healing and fertility properties (cf. Pliny the Elder). Christ is the fertile ground upon which I wish to build my nest, and in Whom I have hope of healing.

My name is Madeleine, and I am mother, medievalist, and musician. I have strong interests in culture and the Catholic Church.
